Class week 5/11-5/14
Congratulations on completing the pathway. I know that it did not go as you planned when we started the semester. Thank you for all your time and effort. If you choose, from what I have been told, you can take the EOPA next fall. This week just finish up any assignments that you missed and print any of the EOPA work (or digitally save it) so you can use it next year to review. Let me know if you have any questions. If you did the other questions, the ones we never got to, email me and I will check them for you to make sure they are correct.
Class 5/4 - 5/7 (Monday through Thursday) Project due Thursday, email me if you have questions.
Do not forget to be working on you project. Details are under the class on Wednesday 4/29. I will post a folder on Schoology later this week so you can submit. Also, you can submit you cranial nerve video too.
Class 4/29 Wednesday
Do not forget to submit your cranial nerve videos!
We are going to have a fun project here that I will be a week long to complete. You will find a sports movie, tv show, medical show, documentary clip, any visual media where there is an injury. This is a fun way to use what you learnd about injuries and see it played out in media.
Using what you learned with special tests and documentation you will answer the following questions based on that media.
1. What is the movie/tv show/media?
2. Describe the mechanism of the injury.
3. What did they say was wrong to that person in the show/movie/etc..?
4. What special tests would you do to rule out, figure out what is wrong with that person? (3 special tests and why!)
5. Create a SOAP note for them, in according to what happened in the show/movie/etc...
An example from Miracle, OC hurts his knee they say its a partial ACL tear.
1. Miracle, OC hurt his R knee
2. Foot was planted on the ice and took and upper body hit.
3. Partial ACL tear
4. Lachman's and Ant drawer for ACL, Post drawer to r/o (rule out) PCL
5. S - Pain in the knee, hurts to bend, felt a pop when hit into the boards
O- Moderate Swelling, Lachman's (+), Post drawer (-), extension lag - USE WHAT YOU LEARNED IN CLASS TO DESCRIBE THE INJURY
A- Possible ACL tear
P- Get MRI , non-weightbearing until the medal round, ice and compression throughout the day
That's an example I expect more details and use what you learned in class for S&S of an injury. This should be fun so enjoy looking for an example and I will post a tab in Schoology next week for you to submit as a project grade. If you have questions just email me.

Class 4/28 Tuesday
To wrap up the spine and spinal injuries, we are going to talk about special tests. Watch the PPT on the spine special tests today for class. It is posted in Schoology.
Class 4/27 Monday
Watch the video on spinal injuries today and do not forget to upload your cranial nerve testing video on Schoology too!
Class 4/23 Thursday
Watch the PowerPoint on Schoology about the anatomy of the spine, as a review of what you read Wednesday. Then upload your short video of your cranial nerve testing with the nerve name, what the function is and how to test. If you want to run through the test all at once and then explain the nerves afterwards you can do that too. The assignment folder is on Schoology.
Class 4/22 Wednesday
Hey everyone! For the students that showed up on the Zoom we talked about concussions, cranial nerves and the SCAT 5 sideline form for concussion screening. Make sure you are practicing your cranial screen, I know some people did not have a chance to practice yet. I will post a homework folder and you can record the screen and upload it for your grade on this unit.
We are moving into spine and spine injuries and an overview of the nervous system. For today start to read about the autonomic nervous system on page 584-586. It is not long and most of the second page is a picture. The read the spine on page 587-588, this is an overview of the spinal divisions and should be a review. This is taking the place of labeling a spine to start the unit. I will post the first part of the PowerPoint for Thursday's class.
Practice your cranial nerve screen, record it and upload to Schoology on Thursday (assignment folder is not up yet)
Let me know if you have any questions.

Talking to the other Sports Med programs in the county and they are hopeful we can still take the EOPA in May. We are staying positive and planning for that. So today I am posting a video on shoulder pad and helmet fitting. There are possible questions about that and it is something we have to learn also. So watch the video and work on the 3rd set of questions. Remember if there is a topic you are unsure of put it in the discussion board and we can talk about it later.
Will have a zoom class Wednesday to review the shoulder and you guys can demonstrate the special tests. Plan on being on the zoom Wednesday at 11. I will post the details tomorrow. I will have the discussion board open on zoom so if you have a question you can type it out and I will answer it for you.

I am thinking around 15:30 (24 hour clock review this is 3:30 pm) for 15-30 minutes. This would be a good time to discuss any questions about injuries or anatomy for elbow, wrist, hand.
Watch the PowerPoint and will discuss during the Zoom meeting. Will be able to answer the questions on Friday.
